How the AP community discovered they’re not alone in the challenges they face
Last week, the Institute of Financial Operations and Leadership brought the AP leaders community to Miami for a day packed with ideas, inspiration and plenty of new connections. One delegate captured the spirit of the day perfectly: “Excellent content for an AP conference, I’ve never experienced feeling so seen in this profession as I did at the IFOL AP Conference.”
From the moment delegates arrived, it was clear that this was a place to share experiences, learn from each other and realize that no one is facing AP challenges alone.
Big Conversations Shaping the Future of AP
The agenda tackled the biggest shifts and challenges for accounts payable leaders right now, including:
- Horizon Scanning in Accounts Payable
- Cybersecurity in AP: Lessons From Real-World Breaches
- How AI is Redefining the Role of Accounts Payable
- Ending Paper Checks: Compliance Strategies
- Unlocking the Secrets of Form W9: An Essential Guide to 1099 Reporting
- Not on My Watch – Stopping AP Fraud in Its Tracks
- Leading Through the Fog: Mental Health and Modern AP Leadership
Each session sparked lively debate, shared challenges and plenty of actionable takeaways.
Learning Through Conversation
Our interactive roundtables gave delegates the chance to dive into their own challenges and successes on:
- Breaking Down Barriers to E-Invoicing
- Proactive Strategies for Vendor Risk Management
Hosted by Garry Stevens and Caroline Adams from the IFOL Education Team, these discussions were buzzing with energy as attendees swapped tips, stories and best practices from their own organizations.
Miami Moments
In between the insights, there were moments to connect and celebrate the power of the AP community. We invited delegates to write a postcard from Miami to their future self, sharing the best advice they had learned that day.
Here’s what they wrote:
- Yasmin De La O, Accounts Payable Associate at the National Basketball Players Association:
- Cleanse master data annually
- Continue to believe in yourself
- Mary Tanner, Accounts Payable Manager at Stord:
“Leadership does not mean doing it all yourself. You can elevate your team to be owners.”
What Delegates Said
“I felt heard because a lot of topics discussed are concerns I have in my day-to-day work life. It’s good to know I am not alone.”
“Great learnings from leaders and process owners in the daily battle of AP.”
“This was an amazing conference! I learned so much and was inspired to ask questions and rethink our processes when I return to the office. I was inspired to be more strategic and make changes to better the accounting team and company.”
